What it Means to be Born the Year of the Pig

In the Chinese Zodiac, the pig is the twelfth animal out of the 12-year cycle of animals. Note that the Chinese refer to “zodiac” as a circle of little animals while in the west. 

Chinese Astrology refers to animals as permanent cycles of twelve animals. The same twelve cycles are used for years and hours.

In the continuous cycle of sixty years, also called sexagenary cycle, each twelfth year corresponds to hai”, which means the twelfth of the earthly branches. This regular twelfth year is what is referred to as “the year of the pig”. Learn more about it below.

Types of Pigs

There are five pig types that are named following Chinese elements of metal, water wood, fire, and Earth respectively. 

They correspond to Heavenly Stems, which is a Chinese system of ordinals, and is dated back to the Shang dynasty. Therefore, each sexagenary cycle has five pig years.

Pigs and Elements

Water is the natural element of the pig. Therefore, it is usually associated with intuitions and emotions. Given that along Celestial stem or elements the animal zodiac also called the “Earthly” stem also follows a cycle. 

It means that each element affect the characteristic of the similar Earthly stem. Since the pig is yin, and is attached only to negative aspects of the elements. Therefore, only 5 kinds of pigs are in the zodiac.

There are: the wood pig, the fire pig, the earth pig, the metal pig, and the water pig respectively. People who were born in the below listed years can say they were born in the “year of the pig” and bear the correspondent elemental signs listed below.

Years

From February 10, 1899 to January 31, 1900 is the sign for the Earth pig, and January 30, 1911 to February 18, 1912 is the sign for the Metal pig. From February 16, 1923 t0 February 4, 1924 is the sign for the Water pig.

If you were born in February 8, 1959 to January 27, 1960, then your sign is the Earth pig, or if you were born from January 27, 1971 to February 14, 1972, then your sign is the Metal pig.

From February 13, 1983 to February 2, 1984 is the sign of the Water pig, and from January 31, 1995 to February 18, 1996 is the sign for the Wood pig.

If you were born in February 18, 2007 to February 6, 2008, then your sign is the Fire pig, or if you were born in February 5, 2019 to January 24, 2020, then your sign is the Earth pig.

People born in the “year of the pig” are honest and frank. They have a strong heart and polite manners. When they choose to do something, they will do it with strength. 

They may be less likely to hurt others. They are good-tempered, positive, loyal, and kind hearted. The best people you can have as friends. However, when in trouble, they become hotheaded, but quickly adapt and rebuild their confidence.
